Community Partners

Building meaningful, collaborative partnerships with organizations that align with our values and mission is important to us. Since its founding, Queer Muslim Network has collaborated with a number of different organizations.

Metropolitan Community Church: Since 1973, MCC Toronto has been helping shape Canadian values of inclusion, diversity, and equality. A place of worship and a place of action, MCC Toronto is a vibrant and progressive church rooted in the Christian tradition and the 2SLGBTQ+ community that is open and welcoming to everyone, and a Human Rights Centre that is fiercely committed to social justice. https://www.mcctoronto.com/

Queer Shia Collective: The Queer Shia Collective is a collective by and for Queer Shias. A space that is judgement free, Shia-centric and 2SLGBTQIA+. They amplify Shia voices and welcome Shias of all backgrounds, experiences, genders, sexualities and stories. Queer Halal Time: Queer Halal Time is a vital space within the Hamilton community for exploring what it means to be Queer and Muslim in a world that often overlooks and marginalizes our existence. Through their events, they seek to celebrate queerness, challenge oppressive norms, and ultimately reimagine what it means to be Muslim while honoring our queer identity. https://www.instagram.com/queer_halal_time/

Sexual and Gender Diversity Office (SGDO UOFT): The Sexual & Gender Diversity Office (SGDO) develops partnerships to build supportive learning and working communities at the University of Toronto by working towards equity and challenging discrimination. https://sgdo.utoronto.ca/

Rising Youth: #RisingYouth was a program led by TakingITGlobal to help young people nationwide who are inspired with ideas and ready to take action through youth-led community service grants. The program was funded to offer grants through May 2022 by the Government of Canada under the Canada Service Corps initiative. https://www.risingyouth.ca/

The 519: The 519 is committed to the health, happiness and full participation of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities. Gender Reveal Podcast: The Gender Reveal podcast explores the vast diversity of trans experiences through interviews with a wide array of trans, nonbinary and Two-Spirit people. But, like, in a fun way?? Along the way, they also created a grant program! https://www.genderpodcast.com/

Inside Out: Inside Out is a not-for-profit registered charity that exists to challenge attitudes and change lives through the promotion, production and exhibition of film made by and about 2SLGBTQ+ people of all ages, races and abilities. https://insideout.ca/

AIDS Committee of Toronto: ACT works to reduce new HIV infections in Toronto and promotes the independence, dignity, health and well-being of people living with HIV and AIDS and those at increased risk of HIV. https://www.actoronto.org/

Palestinian Film Fest: The Toronto Palestine Film Festival (TPFF) is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization dedicated to bringing Palestinian cinema, music, cuisine and art to GTA audiences. TPFF was conceived in 2008 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Al-Nakba. https://www.tpff.ca/

Africans in Partnership Against Aids (APAA): Africans in Partnership Against AIDS (APAA), is a community-based, Canadian non-profit charitable AIDS service organization serving African communities in the greater Toronto area. Established in 1993, we have continued to support members of the African community in response to the increased need for those living with HIV/AIDS. https://apaa.ca/

Kind Space: Kind Space is a community centre in Ottawa – unceded Algonquin territory – that offers resources, events, social and educational programming. Our work celebrates, supports, and prioritizes oppressed sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions. https://kindspace.ca/

Toronto Queer Film Festival: Since 2016, the Toronto Queer Film Festival has showcased the film and video art of queer and trans creators. We celebrate vigour, resistance, and defiance over nationalism and assimilation.
